Meet the Committee!

Our Committee is comprised of volunteers who bring a diverse range of skills and experience to the table. They are passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of prison officers, their families, and the wider community.

Our Committee meets regularly to discuss fundraising efforts, grant applications, and the allocation of funds to support our beneficiaries. We are committed to transparency and accountability, and ensure that all funds raised are used effectively and efficiently to make a real difference to the lives of those we support.

This is a fantastic charity and a honour to be involved in. Served 35 years at HMP’s Birmingham and Frankland. PSCF Rep since 1992. Joined main Committee 2002, Presently serving as Secretary. Received MBE in 2010, for services to Charity.

A bit about me 

Started working at HMP Preston in 2003 . I was the manager in the officer’s mess and visitors centre for 4 years then transferred to the main kitchen.

I got involved with the PSCF in 2007  when I was raising money for CRY in memory of a very close friend of my son’s. She was only 17 and went to bed and just didn’t wake up . We raised over £3,000 and the PSCF also gave us £2,000. I remember crying when I received the cheque from PSCF I was so overwhelmed. I was then asked to be the rep for Preston as the rep had died and he had been the rep at Preston since 1989 when the charity had first started.

In 2017 I was asked to join the Committee and then in 2021 asked to be the Vice Chair and I also am now Vice treasurer as well .

Joined the Prison Service 1975  Trained at HM Prison Training College Wakefield posted to YOI Glen Parva and served 31yrs. In 1979 founded with several staff The Barbara Spencer Fund at Glen Parva.

I worked for HMPPS initially as a Probation Officer and then as an Operational/Senior Operational Manager for over 27 years. I joined the PSCF Committee when I retired from HMPPS in 2019 and I am very proud of the donations that we make to a diverse range of good causes and the staff who raise the money.

I first heard about the PSCF in 2018 and made my first appeal when I took I part in the Race for Life in memory of my Nan and Grandma. I took over as the Rep at HMP Liverpool in March 2022, when I was also invited to join as a committee member. I feel so privileged to be able to support HMPPS staff in their fundraising.

I started working at HMP/YOI Hindley in 2003, I worked in both operational and non-operational roles.  Both roles allowed me to support staff in times of need and I wanted to do this as I have a real passion for helping others. This is how I became a Rep for my local establishment around 6 years ago.  I was proud to represent the PSCF in my home establishment as I had witnessed the fantastic work, they do by helping staff boost their fundraising. This is often for charity or cause close to the staff member’s heart.   Whist being a Rep we always applied to the PSCF to boost fundraising for the causes our staff members had chosen to support. Over the years Hindley have had many cheques from the PSCF, and it’s always a heart-warming feeling handing these cheques out to staff who have raised funds to boost them up to, or get them nearer to their targets.  Over the years I also made sure to give back and recruited new members at every opportunity.  In March 2022, I was very proud to be asked to join the PSCF as a Committee member and I am delighted I can volunteer my time to this fantastic charity to continue the great work that goes on behind the scenes, and even more so be able to be part of supporting staff with fundraising on a much wider scale – it is so rewarding 😊.

I Joined the Prison Service in 2007 and have worked in both the male and female estate. I am currently Head of Safety at HMP Hindley. I am very passionate about raising money for charities and those in need.

I became a PSCF rep 10 years ago and have been involved in raising money for some fantastic causes and people. I take the greatest enjoyment from raising money for my colleagues. The PSCF has always assisted me with this fundraising by giving money to help us reach the financial target.

I have attended the annual conference for the PSCF for many years and it’s been a great opportunity to meet colleagues from other prisons and hear about the wonderful fundraising they are doing.

I was delighted to be asked to join the PSCF Committee last year and look forward to helping as many people as we can and especially members of staff. I also look forward to spreading the good news and letting everybody know what we do.
