HMP Liverpool’s SO Barry Short joined the Run 2 MILES a day for every day in February challenge, set to raise funds by Cancer Research UK.
“The 56 mile total was relevant to me as I’m reaching that age this year. 15th February is also the date of my mums anniversary, she died of Ovarian Cancer 15 years ago.
Dave Beattie is an ex colleague and friend from HMP Liverpool who died four years ago after a sudden illness, CANCER took him far too early, aged 55, he never got to 56 years .
I trained in January to help my start on February 1st, I hadn’t run for a few years!
I used social media to promote the challenge and I was lucky enough to gain many donations from family ,friends and colleagues totalling £1,500.00.
With the help and support from PSCF Rep, Mick Flynn, I submitted a form to Prison Service Charity Fund who amazingly donated £500.00 to Cancer Research UK, and £1,000.00 to Queens-court Hospice, Southport where Dave Beattie was looked after with love during his last 6 months”.
